Cost: Rent for each house is split among adults for 3 nights Lodging.
Chow: Folks are on their own with respect to food. However, there will be a spirited pizza dinner get-together at The MJB House on Saturday, Feb 9. Folks should bring appetizers/desserts to add to the mix. Send Mary Boeckman what you are planning to bring to the get-together.
Each house takes care of itself.
Trail fees and rentals are extra and are paid there.
What You Get:This is a replacement for the longest continuously running MJB trip. It places us in an area (the Poconos) which has many different winter (and for that matter summer) activity options including downhill and cross-country skiing, tubing, hiking, biking, etc. The trip provides a weekend get-away in the middle of winter and accomodates families, singles, and couples equally well.
What?: Call Tom Duffy at work: 410-993-6128; home: 410-788-0226; or Mary Boeckman at work: 202-752-3383; home: 410-747-3830
Cross-Country Details Cross-Country Skiing can be found at Brady Lake Gamelands which is left off of Rte. 940 (the road you turn off of to enter Locust Lakes Village). Head on 940 for about 2 miles and make a left at the Fishing Commission road. There is a stone Game Warden's house. There are plenty of mountain bike trails which could be used for cross country. A topographical map can be purchased at Pops Fishing Store which is also on Rte. 940.
Note, there are also two slopes in the community with J-bars which are free to community badge holders. My cousin (The Drozd's) will have a set of badges available for our use. When you use the badges, make sure you mention that you are family and your cousin is letting you use their cabin for the weekend. The badges sometimes allow us to get discounts on lift tickets via the village office. We will try our luck on Saturday around 8am.
Other Details: This trip continues to grow and hopefully we can switch back to a larger place that can accommodate all of us.
The first folks to arrive at the Drozd House will need to turn on the breakers for the hot-water heater and the water pump. These will be turned off upon returning. The thermostat will be set to 45 and this will need to be set to a comfortable setting. There is also ample firewood for the wood stoves behind the Drozd House.
Have Fun!
