A group of us folks will be taking a canoe trip on the Shenandoah River on the weekend of October 10-12, 2003. Please camp with us at the KOA Campground in Harpers Ferry on Friday night or at the Outfitter before 9:15 on Friday, October 11.

The Outfitter (River & Trail Outfitters) charges $60.50 per canoe including tax and a two-way shuttle. They run two shuttles a day, one at 9:30 and the other at 1:30, so we are taking the early shuttle. Call 888-446-7529 for more details and reserve your canoe with them ahead of time. This year we are most likely doing a 7 mile run, but we can decide that the day of the trip. Folks need to be at the Outfitters no later than 9:15 am. We will carpool/convoy to the Outfitter from the camping area. The run is a scenic one requiring basic skills. Beginners are welcome.

Chow:

A pack lunch is suggested. It is nice to have a hearty dinner after a day of canoeing. Prepare a meal at camp or pick-up something on the way back to the Harpers Ferry campground.

Camping:

Call Duffy to coordinate camping arrangements. I will reserve 2 sites for the trip. The campsites at KOA campground are very well equipped with showers and ample restroom facilities available. The cost of camping will be split equally among the campers and there is a limit of 2 tents per site. The cost of the sites is: $29.95 per night for 2 persons and $5 for each additional person. The number to call for more details on the park/campsites is 304-535-6895.

Campsite Reservation Numbers are as follows:

#99501 - Duffy's & Mary & Henry
#99535 - JoAnn Richardson & Dave Kruger

Details:

Day-trippers meet at the Outfitters no later than 9:15. Campers will convoy to the Outfitters and arrive around the same time. The morning of the trip we will choose between the available canoeing options. Canoer's should pre-arrange with the Outfitter for their canoe rental.

Have Fun!
